The Surprise Party by RL Stine with spoilers

This one started with another prologue that gave away the ending.

After Evan died in the Fear Street woods, everything changed for Meg Dalton. Her best friend Ellen moved away and Meg's boyfriend is acting weird. A year later, Ellen is coming back to town, and Mag wants to throw a surprise party for her. Meg starts getting threatening phone calls and someone starts messing with her, telling her to cancel the party.

Meg is hanging out with her friend Shannon when they run into Lisa Blume who tells them that Ellen Majors is coming back to town and staying with her aunt. Meg isn't angry with Ellen for coming to town and not calling her, or that she heard it from Lisa, who wasn't her best friend. She wants to throw a surprise party instead. At home, Meg is doing homework when she gets a call not to plan the party.

Shannon tries to talk Meg out of it and Meg says she has the perfect idea for where to have it: the Old Halsey Manor House that's in the Fear Street woods that's being restored.

It's brought up that Meg's cousin Brian heard the shot when Ellen's brother Evan was shot and killed. Brian is an 80's contradiction: he's a 4th level wizard in Dungeons and Dragons, but he works out and has a "great bod." Evan was Shannon's boyfriend.

At school, Meg's invitations are destroyed when she leaves them in a classroom and Meg gets a threatening note to not throw the party. Meg tries to make an outline of suspects, including her boyfriend Tony. Meg and Tony fight and Meg talks to Lisa about it.

Meg confronts Shannon about the threatening calls and note. Shannon tells her it wasn't her and gets mad at her. At lunch, Meg's lunch sack is filled with blood, shocking and scaring her.

Meg can't focus on her homework, so she goes to Shannon's house to apologize. She remembers Evan as he was and when he attacked Tony with a poolstick. Meg remembers Evan being violent on several occassions. Meg comes back to the room and apologizes to Shannon and they discuss what's going on and they come up with Brian being a suspect.  When Shannon goes home, someone in an SUV tries to run her down. We get a third person omniscient of the driver, who says that he was just trying to scare Meg to stop the party so that the whole gang isn't back together and figures out somethings. She calls Tony, but he's not home.

Tony is going to Dewayne's house, Dewayne says he was happy Evan died, and Tony is enraged because Evan was his best friend and does something to hurt Dewayne, we don't know what.

At four am, Tony's father calls Meg to figure out where Brian and Tony are, Brian is missing too. Meg an her whole family, along with Tony's, go to search for them in the woods. As Meg searches, someone chases her down and attacks her, telling her not to have the party, and disappears. She finds a body left behind, and it's Brianm, who's been attacked too. They find Tony, too and the police are there. Tony tries to talk Meg out of the party with all this violence happening. Meg goes to visit Brian the next day and he admits to "calling" and then goes on a rant about how he's been reaching out to Evan beyond the grave, now disassociating with reality. Ellen interrupts, and surprises Meg.

After Tony is basically revealed to be the killer and convinces himself to kill Meg, Meg goes to Ellen's aunt's house to pick her up for the party. They surprise her at the Old Halsey Manor house. Ellen is awkwardly surprised. Brian crashes the party and shouts about being a 4th Level Wizard and the door to the house opens, an Evan look-a-like walks in that is Shannon's brother. Tony freaks out and says he'll confess to everything while pointing a gun at Mike, and the lights go out. When they come back on, Tony's been shot and Dewayne has a gun. He grabs Ellen as hostage saying she's next, saying she helped to kill Evan. Meg tries to stop it, but Dewayne takes her hostage too. Dewayne pushes them to go downstairs to the basement with a kitchen to hide and then confesses he shot Evan. Ellen insists that Tony shot Evan after she broke up with Evan. Ellen and Tony were sneaking around behind Meg's back. Dewayne and Brian were playing Wizards and Dragons and they heard the gunshot. They found Evan alive, but shot, and Dewayne "finished" Evan off. Meg and Ellen distract Dewayne and Meg grabs a cast iron pan and hits Dewayne with it.
